This Matters More Than You Realize
I have a quote to share with you that is a great reminder when you start feeling frustrated in your business (or in life for that matter).
I’ve used this in an upcoming podcast as well (podcast reboot is coming next week! I have 6 new episodes, a tweak on the name, and a new intro!).
My mentor shared this with me and it really struck a nerve.
Here’s a different definition for frustration:
Frustration is simply attempting to control something over which we have no control.
Powerful, isn’t it?
Add to that another quote I heard (believe it was a Buddhist quote, but I can’t find the source):
“If you can do something about it, why worry? If you can’t do anything about it, why worry?”
This brings me to the thing that matters more than you realize.
The people you surround yourself with.
We’ve all heard the phrase “you’re the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with”… but do we really pay attention to it?
Creating and building an online business is not easy.
You have to be willing to fail (a LOT), get back up, ignore trolls, not take things personally, practice your craft (also a LOT), invest money, scrap projects you once thought would be “it”, etc.
I am extremely conscious of the content I consume – both for my business and in my life (I haven’t watched the news in probably 10+ years).
I know what motivates me, relaxes me, inspires me, entertains me, and helps me unplug.
If it doesn’t fit into one of those buckets… I’ll pass.
In my business, I like to surround myself with people who do the same thing.
One of those people is Jason Resnick.
I’ve known Jason for a few years and I reached out to him in March when I was still in Boise (which feels like it was about 10 years ago, not 9 months ago) about a collaboration.
We were meeting every other week, then moved it to weekly calls based on what we were originally planning (and yes, I know I’m a bit of a tease).
What’s been so amazing about this process is that we have been super patient about “when” and we’ve also deliberately gone “deep.”
Because of this we’ve pivoted our strategy a bit and are going to be doing something in a very public way while “walking our talk” so to speak.
I know I’m being cryptic, but sit tight! We’re going to announce this live on an upcoming live stream with Matt Medeiros in about a week and a half.
From there you’ll be able to follow our very public journey of this project.
EEEK!
Jason has a very chill demeanor (which works well with my hyper-over-caffeinated self ) and he’s brilliant at what he does.
You can connect with Jason on Twitter (he’s part of the reason I’ve gone back to Twitter) or even better, subscribe to him here.
Stay tuned for how you can catch the live stream next week.
Until then, make sure the people you surround yourself with bring out the best in you. All you have to do is pay attention to how you feel when you’re with them.
It can make all the difference in the world.
