#FtheHUSTLE ~ 078 – This Totally Grabbed My Attention

FtheHustle Newsletter

Last Sunday I tried out a new hairdresser.. and hallelujah he’s fantastic! (I know my female readers feel my pain of finding the “right” stylist when it comes to your hair).

The best part is the salon is literally 5 minutes away!

Sometimes I like to chat when I’m getting my hair done, other times I like to check out and read (he’s super personable, I told him next time we can practice my Spanish…”yo solo hablo un poco de español” 😉).

This time I wanted to read.

I read a lot of marketing and business books, but they have to be written in a way that holds my attention, otherwise, they end up being more like a reference book.

This book grabbed me from the beginning.

The title might sound a little boring, but I promise you it’s not.

It’s “The Adweek Copywriting Handbook: The Ultimate Guide to Writing Powerful Advertising and Marketing Copy from One of America’s Top Copywriters” by Joe Sugarman (RIP).

Joe is famous for his infomercials for Blue Blocker sunglasses, but he started out in traditional advertising writing copy. And was horrible at first.

Most of the lessons are told as a story and you can see how the results unfold (I’m a sucker for a good hero’s journey story and he’s mixed that in as well).

I’m not super far into the book, but here’s a takeaway that ties in directly with one of my other hashtags (#everythingiscontent).

Joe talks about the importance of staying curious and having other interests – and how that actually makes you a much better copywriter (and you don’t have to want to be a copywriter to find immense value in this book).

It never ceases to amaze me that when I mix up my day-to-day routine, find someone new to connect with, or even go to a new restaurant a little spark is lit up within me. 🕯

More often than not, I get a different perspective and clarity on something else entirely.

Don’t underestimate the impact your hobbies, relationships, and experiences can have on your business and your marketing.

Stay curious my friends. 😊

For Your Listening Pleasure 🎙

I had the good fortune of interviewing Nicole Osborne of Wunderstars! Nicole helps agencies with their marketing, is a Linkedin genius, and ridiculous amount of fun to chat with. We went in-depth with why she likes to work with people who are “marketing-reluctant.”

As of May 31st, I will have officially been in Costa Rica for a year! What a wild & wonderful ride it’s been. I decided to share a look back on my first year here, why I’m staying, and why I hope to buy property down here.

A Little Brainpower 🧠

You don’t have to create quite so much, but here are some great tips for creating more content each week. “Every week I publish…

A favorite author of mine, Ryan Holiday, shared “18 Little Stories That Will Have Massive Impact On Your Life” – a great pick-me-up.

Tool Time  🛠

I’ve had my hands full working with tools over the last couple of weeks (landing pages, planning, opt-in forms, countdown timers, etc.) so I’m sharing a couple I’ve been using and a couple of new ones!

I’ve got another set of friends in town now through next Thursday -only this time we rented a house on the beach! I’m going to try and unplug as much as I can, enjoy my time with these lifelong friends, and more Costa Rican sunsets!
