#FtheHustle ~ 038 – Testing A New Traffic Source

FtheHustle Newsletter

I finally did something this past week that I’ve been meaning to do for, well, months.

I’ve created a publication on Medium for #FtheHustle.

If you’re not familiar with Medium, it was created by Evan Williams (one of the founders of Twitter). Medium is “an open platform where readers find dynamic thinking , and where experts and undiscovered voices can share their writing on any topic.” (source: Google).

In other words, it’s a platform to write on and connect with a new audience.

I’ve been a subscriber to Medium for years. I’ve been reading it for longer (there wasn’t a premium option when they first launched in 2012). The premium subscription is only $5 a month (or $50 for the year).

If you don’t subscribe you’re limited to 3 articles a month (Fair enough, I’m all for creators getting paid).

This also means that yes, you can get paid to write on the platform.

How much you get paid depends on the consistency and quality of what you’re publishing (and factors such as paid subscribers reading your content, etc), but it’s also a great vehicle for creators who like to write and want to get in front of an entirely new audience.

I specifically think it’s gold for newsletter creators (I’ll be creating a new publication for “Creativity Published” for the Content Creators Planner as well).

People who like to read on Medium are *probably* an ideal target audience for becoming a quality newsletter subscriber (that’s a hunch. I have zero data on that other than that’s where I’ve found a handful of newsletters I subscribe to).

I’m starting this test by re-posting the newsletter to Medium.

I’d like to do some original content as well as have people submit to write for the publication (reply to this email if you’re interested). That to me makes it feel like more of a publication (as opposed to only republishing the newsletter).

I shared this in Content Creators yesterday and had a couple of people ask about duplicate content.

You don’t have to worry about Google dinging you for duplicate content (you can read below for a more in-depth answer, but I promise you you’re good).

The only thing you need to worry about is if you publish original content on Medium, for which you get paid, then you post it on your own personal site/blog.

That goes against Medium’s terms of service.

So if you’re publishing first on a property you own, have at it.

My new test brought me 4 new subscribers (again, Welcome!) in one afternoon.

I’m looking forward to seeing how this new traffic source unfolds.

A Little Brainpower 🧠

Speaking of duplicate content… when I did a little research on the question regarding Medium and duplicate content I came across a great article that explains it thoroughly (you can also post your articles & newsletters to Linkedin!).
Read “Strategic Guide to Reposting Content on Medium & Linkedin.”

Tool Time  🛠

This has been a fun week of discovery for new tools!

  • Selling: I love seeing new apps enter this space. This looks like a competitor to Gumroad with more functionality. I love how this looks and the UI is super clean. Try LemonSqueezy for free here.
  • Graphics: I guess with the advancement of AI technology it only makes sense that we’d see something like this come along. I haven’t tried it yet, but it looks interesting. Checkout Designs.ai here.
  • Livestreaming: (I wish someone would officially decide if that’s one word or two). A new platform (that looks great) for live streaming to social platforms. Use Melon for free here.
  • Google: Not sure how I’ve missed this in the past, but Google has a free online white-boarding tool! It works pretty well too (from the little bits I’ve tested). Use Google Jamboard here.

DIY Design 🎨

If you’re looking for a little design help, look no further! My friend Mor Cohen is celebrating a milestone this week and has some amazing bonuses for her design course. 20k members in her Facebook group is certainly reason to celebrate!

A self-paced course with unlimited access so you can create the branded website for your own brand that you’ve always wanted!

YES! This is me, all day long 🤣

This issue was brought to you by Jarvis (formerly Conversion.ai).
