#FtheHustle Newsletter

I don’t know about you, but I swear every single year I think I’m ready for the holiday season. My intention is to take it easy, and then BOOM. Guess again.

The only difference at his point in my life is I stress much less about it.

Everything always gets done or it doesn’t (how’s that for deep wisdom? 😁). Either way, it’s never earth-shattering.

I was starting to feel a little squeezed earlier this week because I’m heading down to my Dad’s for Thanksgiving next Tuesday and will be in California for the week. I started thinking of the work that needs to be done between now and then as well as personal stuff (oil change, getting the dogs nails trimmed, etc.).

Before I knew it I was feeling angsty.

When that feeling starts creeping in I can become totally unproductive, which of course leads to more angst.

Instead of feeding the angst I stopped.

And I did the thing I would most enjoy doing that needed to be done. In this case it was writing and recording this weeks podcast episode (about how I transitioned out of service work).

Doing that completely shifted my mindset and brought me back to a grounded place.

There’s still plenty of things on my to-do list, but I refuse to spin out or exhaust myself.

Remind yourself that YOU get to choose what you do.

I said yes to something yesterday afternoon that I really don’t have the time and energy to do so I’m going to email and back out. As uncomfortable as that may feel when I do it, I know it’s what needs to be done.

Taking care of yourself at this time of year is what allows you to show up for everyone else.

A Little Brainpower 🧠

Now that I’m back to podcasting regularly (which I have thoroughly missed), I’m looking at new ways to drive traffic and grow my show. Sendfox recently wrote a great article on “How to Grow and Monetize Your Podcast.” Well worth the read if you have a podcast or are thinking of starting one.

Nicolas Cole is one of my favorite writers on Medium. This quote from his article “The Failure Fallacy: Why Being Wrong Can Actually Be Your Fastest Path to Achievement” really resonated with me. He says “If you see your journey in terms of achievement and failure, you’ve already failed.”

Tool Time 🛠

So I literally just found out about this a couple of days ago, but I’m going to test it out this weekend. Searchie is a new video platform (for hosting and delivering your videos) by Stu McLaren (of Tribe). Instant video captions and transcriptions? Yes please!

As much as I love creating hashtags, there is actually a better strategy to using hashtags to get in front of your ideal customer and audience. If you’re not sure which hashtags to use, check out Flick. Flick finds, manages, and analyzes Instagram hashtags.

For Your Viewing Pleasure 📹

Alright, alright, alright…
Matthew McConaughey has been making the rounds promoting his new book, Greenlights. It’s about mindset and life: stories, life lessons, and learning how to go deep learning about ourselves. Righ up my alley (I’m getting the audio book since he reads it himself). He made an appearance on Impact Theory with Tom Bilyeu.

I love this little girl. Not only because she pretty much sums up how we’re all feeling about lockdown, but because she never misses an opportunity to groove in the car with her dad when her tunes come on.

Because We All Need More Books 📕

This book literally just came out this week but I dove into it last night. It’s completely on par with the #FtheHustle mentality. You don’t have to have a ‘woowoo’ business to be tired of the old school marketing mentality. You just need to want to do things the way it works for you. I dove into this last night and am hooked. I love business books that have a great mix of stories and advice.
Check out “The Soul-Sourced Entrepreneur” by Christine Kane

I have used this book too many times to count. Ideal for anyone who wants to improve their writing, it’s not just for copywriting. AND… it’s truly a tool. Looking for ‘teaser’ words for an email subject line? Yep, there’s a list for that. How about features and benefits Yep, a list for those too. And MANY more.

Oh to be so witty… 🤣

Lastly, can I just say “what the fleet?”

As in, Twitter Fleets. Yea, I saw that and was like “huh?” Apparently Twitter has joined the stories market. You can now tweet stories…er, fleets (because they’re fleeting and only last 24 hours). I’m not a big Twitter user, but I’m curious if you are a Twitter user what your thoughts are?

Here’s a little more on Fleets

Next week I’ll send the newsletter on Wednesday, since Thursday is Thanksgiving in the U.S.

I have zero intentions of working that day (I’ll probably still be recovering from the 9+ hour drive down to California before).

I will be sharing some Black Friday Cyber Monday specials with you over the holiday weekend, so keep your eyes peeled for that. AND… one of which is BRAND NEW and I’ve never offered before!

Have a wonderful rest of your week and enjoy the upcoming weekend.
