Of Course You're Scared… Publish Anyways
As excited as I was to do it, I remember feeling a little surprised at how nervous I was.
O.K., I was more than nervous. I was a little scared.
I’d always prided myself on being someone who was willing to try new things, take risks, step out into the unknown.
I’ve never had a huge desire to do things like skydiving (my daughter did that on her 18th birthday… made me think twice about it) or bungee jumping, but I’ve done my fair share of adventurous things.
So when I had the opportunity to race a Ferrari a couple years ago I was all over it!
Then when we got there and I got behind the simulator (you had to do this first), I noticed I started feeling a tad more nervous than I expected.
I was honestly surprised at myself.
Once I got behind the wheel (with an experienced race car driver) I got even more nervous. What you’re supposed to do with a race car on a race track is so counter-intuitive to how we drive day-to-day.
“You want me to accelerate on the turns?”
Needless to say, it was amazing, exhilarating, and empowering.
And I’d do it again.

We learn we’re more capable than we gave ourselves credit for.
Over the last week or so I’ve had a massive epiphany about my business.
How I can simplify it even more… doing something I really love.
I’ll be sharing that with you guys along the way, but until then, know that I’ve been living with a nervous little feeling in my gut.
Daily.
Every time I think about doing this.
Which I’ve finally learned means I’m on the right path.
Fortunately, I’m just as excited as I am nervous.
Here we go… again.
So next time you question what you’re doing or offering, trust that.
Trust what you’re feeling about what you’re doing. Don’t look for validation or what anyone else is doing. Avoid asking for opinions… sometimes that’s simply a distraction from actually taking action. The best feedback you’re going to get is through the doing, which in this case is simply publishing and sharing.
It’s normal to question things….
Do it anyways.
We were meant to create… whatever that looks like for you.
But you have to hit “publish”…
I read an article on Jeff Bullas this morning that inspired this post (which was originally an email I sent to my subscribers). I hadn’t planned on writing or emailing, but when I read the post on Jeff’s site I felt inspired to share it (which is a great example of creating content your audience wants. This post starts off with a story, and is what pulled me in further to go from reading the email to clicking through to his site).
The post title doesn’t do it justice… I clicked through on the email because it was the story that grabbed me. It’s not a typical ‘listacle post’ (3 ways, 5 steps, 7 hacks, etc.).
It’s about the fact that we all have a story worth capturing, publishing and sharing.
Will you be scared?
Probably.
Do it anyways.

Let me know what you think… I loved this post.
Hi Kim,
Thanks for the article, this is helpful for me in many ways, as I am non native and my English is not good so I am outsourcing my articles to someone else but he is also non-native and I am not satisfied with his articles, therefore, I am planning to write down articles myself after learning some more grammar and writing skills. I am scared that my articles will be a garbage but I feel I should give it a try maybe I will improve after time.
Hi Vicky,
I have to yet to try something new that I wasn’t first scared. 🙂 If you’re a little nervous about Grammar, try using Grammarly (the free version). It will help you edit as you write (there’s a Chrome extension).
Have a great weekend,
Kim
